The Beginning

Audio reproduction is a difficult mistress.

I used to be a hifi nut. I subscribed to all the "high-end" rags and listened to obscenely expensive equipment. I could never hope to afford any of that gear though. One day, a long time ago, I stumbled across an article in I believe stereophile. The article referenced another magazine called Sound Practices.

Geared to the truly fevered audio nut, SP is devoted to retro audio designs, aka: Ultra-Fi. You will find very little solid state gear, mostly tube audio designs. Horn Speakers which will get your evicted from your apartment with 10 watts of power. Handmade turntables from scratch. Tube amps with 1 watt ratings. Forget about HiFi forever. These last century designs, many inspired from designs from the 1920, are layed out for the builder to create.

Ultra-Fi is not about retro audio. It is not about OLD. Its about MUSIC. Tube audio designs are cutting edge. They also present music is such a pleasing form thats its difficult, if not impossible to go back. To the left are some of my projects. None are never perfect, nor complete.
